How much does a bed cost, and why it is worth more than a store-bought one
Almost every client starts with the same question: how much does a good bed cost? And a second one follows, unspoken: is it really worth the difference from a store bed? Let us answer both, straight to the point.
Quick answer: at Sheep & Sleep, a complete bed, base plus headboard, starts around $3,300. It costs more than a ready-made store bed, and it should. It is a different product: different foam, different fabric, different finishing. You pay once for a bed you sleep well on and that lasts for years.
What the price includes
When you order a bed with us, the price covers the full structure: the base and the headboard, in the size and fabric you choose. Along with it comes what you do not see in a showroom, but what makes the difference:
- The right foam density in the headboard, never too firm and never sagging over time.
- Premium fabric with hand-stitched finishing, without that mass-produced look.
- Ready-made cut-outs in the headboard for outlets, switches and LED, with the wiring channels built in.
- The size you choose, full, queen or king, in the fabric and color that suit your room.
The mattress is not included. If you want, you can add the High Comfort mattress to the same quote.
Why the store bed looks cheaper
A ready-made store bed has a lower price for a simple reason: it is built to fit the largest number of rooms at the lowest possible cost. That means generic foam and a fabric chosen to be cheap, not to last. Beautiful in the photo, it tends to wear out fast in everyday use.
The math changes when you think about time. A store bed that needs replacing in a few years adds up. A well-made bed stays with you far longer, and in the end the cost per night of sleep comes out lower.
What changes the price
Three things move the price, and you control all of them:
The size. Full, queen or king. The larger the bed, the more material and the more work. If you are still deciding between sizes, see our guide on full, queen or king.
The model. Each line has a different level of detail, from the cleanest to the most authorial. The model you choose sets much of the finishing.
The fabric. Our in-house fabrics, such as bouclé, linen, velvet and faux leather, are included in the price. Imported collections carry an additional cost. If you have not picked your fabric yet, our guide on how to choose the fabric helps a lot.
If you only want the headboard
The bed already comes with its headboard as a set. But if you only want to refresh the focal point of the room, we make the headboard to measure, in the exact height and width of your wall. It is worth seeing the guide on ideal headboard height and exploring our made-to-measure headboards.
The reassurance of an established maker
Price is about trust too. Cabeçare has been crafting upholstered furniture since 2013 and has delivered more than 8,300 pieces. Every bed comes with a 1-year warranty and a production time of 28 to 50 days, because it is made to order.
